Job Description

WellAway is seeking a Health Insurance Underwriter that will be responsible for evaluating and analyzing the risks associated with insuring individuals or groups. They determine the terms and conditions of insurance policies, including coverage limits, premiums, and exclusions, to ensure profitability for the insurance company.

Key Responsibilities :

• Assess applications for health insurance coverage by evaluating medical records, financial status, and other relevant information.
• Determine the level of risk and appropriate premiums for each applicant.
• Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and policies.
• Collaborate with actuaries to analyze statistical data and set premium rates.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.
• Communicate underwriting decisions to agents, brokers, and policyholders.
• Review and update existing policies to reflect changes in risk or regulations.
• Work with sales and marketing teams to develop competitive insurance products.
• Provide training and support to junior underwriters and other staff.

Qualifications :

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Health Administration, or a related field.
• Experience in underwriting, preferably in health insurance.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of health insurance regulations and industry standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
