Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
Location: This position is located in INDOT's Central Office, Indianapolis.
Role Overview : This role is a traffic engineer in the Corridor Development Office at the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Corridor Development Office is responsible for evaluating the State and Interstate Roadway Network related to operational, capacity, mobility, connectivity, and accessibility needs with a primary focus on the Interstate system and higher-volume arterial routes. The team evaluates identified areas of need in a preliminary engineering process that includes data collection, purpose & need definition, operational analysis, alternative development, cost estimation, and recommendations on the next steps that are presented in an Alternative Evaluation Report. Proposed projects advance into INDOT’s asset management annual call for projects process, where they are scored, ranked, vetted, and potentially recommended for development and construction funding, subject to funding constraints. The Corridor Development Office also has a significant role in major project alternative development and guidance of traffic elements in corridor and new alignment roadway studies pertaining specifically to establishing and defensible purpose and need.
As the Highway Engineer 2, you will complete duties related to establishing and assisting with the Traffic Mobility Capital Program, major project creation including analysis and alternative development, customer service and subject matter expertise related to technical inquiries and requests for assistance. This role assists with traffic analysis and reviews statewide, reviewing corridor and planning studies, and upholding reasonability and feasibility related to establishing purpose and need for capital investment. To be successful in this role you should have a basic understand traffic analysis and policy, of the traffic mobility asset program, and project management.
