DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The MAAC Community Charter School (MCCS) is an alternative, full-day public high school eight miles from the Mexican border in Chula Vista, California. Its charter is held by the Sweetwater Union High School District. MCCS has a dedicated faculty and staff that serve high risk at-risk youth from Grade 9 through age 20, with an onsite YouthBuild program for 18-24 year olds. Many of the students have dropped out previously or have not been successful in their prior educational settings for a variety of reasons and/or they prefer a small school environment with a student-centered curriculum. Majority of the students speak and/or understand Spanish. At MAAC Community Charter School, our mission is to prepare our students for college, career and community service. We use the arts and project-based learning to engage our non-traditional learners (Critical Pedagogy). MCCS serves approximately 300 students and graduates 100-125 per year. DEFINITION
Under supervision, the Secondary Classroom Teacher utilizes appropriate instructional skills and differentiated strategies and provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential enables students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society; performs related duties as assigned.
Secondary Classroom Teacher is responsible for providing instruction allowed by their Credential, including but not limited to one or more of the following areas of study: Physical Science and Life Sciences, Mathematics, Social Science, (Geography, History, U.S. Government, Economics) English (writing and literature), ESL, Fine Arts, Language, Electives, Health and Physical Education Special Education and/or Independent Studies. The incumbent participates in developing course curriculum, lesson plans, provides instruction to students, maintains a safe and orderly school environment, assesses and evaluates student accomplishments, maintains required student records and files and communicates with faculty, students and parents regarding student progress.

HEALTH STATUS
Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental Demands

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE
All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.
Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.
TRANSPORTATION
Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC’s insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
