Responsibilities:

• Teach in an elementary or secondary school instructional program and create a class environment favorable to learning.
• Teach a broad range of subjects or specialized subject matter(s) including special needs students.
• Motivate students to achieve their maximum potential.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Create Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) and Evaluation Reports for special needs and regular students.
• Translate lesson plans into effective learning experiences and integrate subject area content and technology.
• Adapt teaching materials and methods to create relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
• Instruct students in specialization and subject matter areas as specified by state law and administrative regulations.
• Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions.
• Assess and evaluate students needs and provide instruction in individual or group sessions.
• Act as a mentor to students and establish behavior standards.
• Formulate and implement behavior modification programs for students.
• Administer standardized tests in accordance with established procedures.
• Encourage students to think independently and develop original ideas.
• Evaluate students progress maintain records and prepare progress reports.
• Communicate with students counselors and parents through conferences and other means.
• Maintain professional licensing and familiarity through inservice education and selected professional materials.
• Select and requisition books and instructional materials and organize classroom resources.
• Participate in curriculum development programs faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as required.
• Meet state and federal mandated timelines and procedures for completing special education due process paperwork.

Qualifications:

• Properly licensed to teach Social Studies by MDE.
• Experience working in a multicultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred.
• Bachelors degree in teaching or related field working with children or equivalent combination of education and experience.
