Job Description

SUMMARY: The Military Family Support Navigator manages a caseload of military spouses. The Military Family Support Navigator will also coordinate and implement outreach and recruitment strategies targeting military spouses in the Concho Valley Workforce Board area who are underemployed or entering the job market to help connect them with appropriate workforce programs and services to assist them with rapid re-employment. The navigator will work toward strengthening connections with installations in the Concho Valley and surrounding areas. The navigator will expand the network of military family support organizations and other community resources/partners.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adheres to the mission of SERCO.
  • Interviews customers or their authorized representatives to gather information to assess service needs.
  • Develops materials for presentations and other customer group meetings, for outreach efforts.
  • Coordinates service provider activities.
  • Implements prescribed program-related procedures and accurate case management.
  • Provides ongoing case management and serves as a liaison between customers, and service providers.
  • Manages a comprehensive caseload.
  • Follows up with customers who have gone to work to assure job retention.
  • Identifies problem areas and service gaps.
  • Provides documentation and maintains case records. Prepares reports as assigned.
  • Identifies and may prepare reports to supervisor on areas that are barriers to services for customers.
  • Interprets policies and procedures. Makes recommendations to management on policy and procedure changes.
  • Uses personal computer to input information and maintain case reporting on various automated reporting systems used by TWIST and various automated reporting systems including JSMS.
  • Performs other work-related duties as needed and/or as assigned.

  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Social Work or a related field, from a recognized four (4) year college or university.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be substituted for a degree.
  • Training experience in social work, counseling, career planning, placement, sales, or related field.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of community resources; case management principles, objectives, standards, and methods; and of program policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively; assess customer needs; provide guidance to other staff; and assist with management activities.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn and use TWIST, WorkInTexas, and other automated reporting software/systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Ability to make frequent presentations at various locations throughout the service area.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, administration, and other employees.
  • Knowledge of military family support organizations and resources is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Must be able to travel within the service area.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and provide automobile liability insurance as required by the State of Texas.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation in order to make required home visits.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; for long periods of time. The employee must be able to drive for extended periods of time. Employees must occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and must be able to set up a display area.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT : Fast-paced, demanding physically and mentally, will be in constant communication.
