The Japanese Language Teacher is a part-time faculty position responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Japanese language and culture. This role includes overseeing Japanese classes that build reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, while integrating cultural awareness and Catholic values. The teacher also proctors students enrolled in online Latin language courses, supporting their academic progress, accountability, and communication with external providers.
The teacher will be a key contributor to the school’s mission, actively participating in the faith life of the school, collaborating with colleagues, and maintaining a classroom atmosphere of respect, discipline, and engagement.
The ideal candidate is a mission-driven educator who demonstrates a passion for teaching world languages, particularly Japanese, and has the adaptability and skills to guide students taking Latin through online platforms. Assess student progress and provide timely feedback through homework, quizzes, projects, and exams.
Maintain up-to-date gradebooks and student records.
Supervise and proctor Latin language students enrolled in online coursework.
Communicate with online providers and families about student progress in Latin.
Collaborate with colleagues in department meetings and school-wide initiatives.
Support the school's mission through involvement in retreats, prayer services, and religious events.
Serve as a substitute teacher and support daily school functions as needed.
Participate in assigned supervision duties (e.g., lunch, hallway, yard).

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.

Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, Japanese Studies, Linguistics, or a related field (required).
Master’s degree in Japanese, Education, or World Languages (preferred).
Valid California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Japanese or actively pursuing (preferred).
Minimum 3–5 years of teaching experience at the high school level (preferred).
Experience in Catholic education or all-boys school setting is a plus.
Familiarity with supervising and supporting students in online learning environments.
