Position Summary JOB SUMMARY: The HVACR Tradesperson is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, operating and repairing building HVAC and refrigeration systems and components; and all other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The duties listed below are intended to describe the essential functions of the position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties and responsibilities. Lasell University has the right to add or change the job responsibilities at any time.
Install, operate, maintain, adjust and inspect all building HVAC and refrigeration system components and associated equipment (motors, controls, valves, cooling towers, dampers, regulators, gaskets, flanges, seals, pumps, draft fans, filters, drip pans, compressors, building management systems, etc.) to detect hazards, malfunctions, the need for adjustment and/or replacement, etc.
Work from piping diagrams, schematics, blueprints, sketches and/or verbal instructions.
Assist and cooperate with all trades people and University staff, faculty, and students in the performance of day to-day duties and responsibilities.
Report hazardous and unusual situations to the appropriate authority.
Complete all work orders and requisitions in a timely manner, and properly process and return all completed work orders and requisitions.
Maintain clean work areas and an adequate inventory of all shop supplies and equipment.
Attend training sessions as required.
Supervise employees of a lower level as needed.
Perform grounds & custodial work as needed.
Perform duties of lower classifications as required.
Assist in completing setup and maintenance assignments for special events, meetings, and other University functions (includes some mandatory overtime).
Respond to emergency calls and perform a variety of maintenance and repair duties.
Remove snow and ice as needed.
Perform related duties as required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED High School diploma or equivalent, plus 5 years of experience in a commercial or industrial setting working with HVACR systems; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must pass a CORI check.
In addition, the following licenses are required at the time of hire:
- US EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Equipment Universal Certification
- Valid Driver's License, with good driving record
Other Requirements of the Job - Broad knowledge of HVACR systems, energy management systems, and appropriate maintenance contracts and/or other control systems contracts.
- Must be familiar with the operation of all standard mechanical system configurations, i.e., VAV, constant volume with or without reheat, etc.
- Experience working with work order and preventative maintenance systems.
- Working knowledge of personal computers, smart phones, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including but not limited to all staff, faculty, and students.
- Ability to work independently and be able to make sound, independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.
- General knowledge of the University's mission, purpose and goals and their role in achieving those goals.
- Ability to understand and apply the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing the department.
- Ability to follow detailed oral/written instructions.
- Ability to use all equipment and tools related to the HVACR trade.
- General knowledge of OSHA & EPA regulations.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships and deal tactfully with others.
