TITLE: Director, Business Development 

LOCATION: New York City (hybrid) 

SALARY : $175,000 - $200,000 base salary, with $215,000 - $250,000 OTE (based on NYC, will be adjusted for geo)

The Role:

The Director of Business Development will lead Canoe’s direct lead generation strategy. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep experience in go-to-market, business development, and lead generation, particularly in the financial services or fintech sectors.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead Generation:
    • Design and oversee lead generation campaigns, ensuring alignment with business objectives and sales targets.
    • Leverage both inbound and outbound marketing channels to increase lead volume and quality.
    • Work closely with the marketing team to optimize lead nurturing efforts and enhance conversion rates.
    • Analyze and report on lead generation performance, making data-driven decisions to improve ROI.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with product, marketing, and sales teams to ensure alignment on product positioning and messaging for business development professionals.
    • Work closely with the sales team to ensure smooth hand-offs of leads and opportunities from business development professionals.
    • Engage with the executive team to provide regular updates on business development professionals and lead generation performance.
  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Lead and mentor a growing team of 6+ global business development professionals.
    • Set clear goals, KPIs, and performance metrics to drive accountability and results.
    • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 7-10 years of experience in business development and lead generation.
  • Proven track record of developing and managing business development programs, ideally within fintech or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of lead generation best practices, including digital marketing, CRM tools, and pipeline management.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience in analyzing performance metrics and adjusting strategies accordingly.
  • Leadership experience with a proven ability to manage and grow high-performing teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field. MBA is a plus.

Preferred:

  • Experience and deep interest in financial technology software and the financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with the Institutional Investment, Wealth Management, Allocator, and Administrator space, and the relevant players, technologies and firms within the community.
  • Positive attitude, high-energy approach, strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and organization skills.
  • Desire to work in a fast-growing, client-facing and revenue-generating role, with significant autonomy.
