Collection & Technical Services Specialist CTS - Sylvan Way

Kitsap Regional Library is looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to provide exemplary customer service within our Collection & Technical Services (CTS) department. This position is responsible for processing, mending, and receiving library materials as well as participating in the development and modification of processing policies and procedures. It requires clear communication with CTS team members as well as front line staff.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, performs a wide range of collection and technical services functions to support internal and external Kitsap Regional Library services. Incumbents may
process and mend library materials as well as input and manage data about books, magazines and other items in the Integrated Library System (ILS). They may also process incoming and outgoing Interlibrary Loans (ILL). Typical duties include: sorting, unpacking and receiving shipments of new materials, labeling and packaging, assisting with special projects and performing a variety of routine and advanced administrative tasks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Any of the following duties may be performed. These examples are representative and do not include all specific tasks an incumbent may be expected to perform:
DUTIES:
Process library materials for circulation. Search ILS catalog for matching bibliographic records. Enter items into the ILS. Recall and revise item records as needed.
Perform advanced mending of books and audio-visual materials including repackaging and creating attractive covers when necessary.
Order magazines and ensure the accuracy of invoices. Create and maintain magazine records and predictions in the serials module of the ILS. Receive and claim magazines for the system.
Manage essential material processing supplies for the system and the department, such as cases for audiovisual items, book covers, labels, etc. Research and evaluate functionality, durability and cost of new products.
Identify and resolve related workflow and technical problems within established guidelines.
Verify and record purchase information for titles being considered for addition or replacement to the collection. Attach holds on items as they are received and prepare them for distribution.
Unpack shipments of new materials received from vendors, matching received materials to invoices and identifying any discrepancies. Receive new items into the Integrated Library System (ILS) and prepare processing slips. Sort priority items according to library guidelines.
Prepare outgoing and incoming interlibrary loan requests as well as materials for delivery or pick up. Record and maintain ILL statistics. Review interlibrary loan patron library records to monitor status of loaned materials. Distribute overdue notices to customer libraries and check on lost items' status. Forward patron record information with payments to appropriate staff in Circulation Department.
Recall designated materials for transfer, discard or mending needs.
Create informational material and replace missing parts as needed for kits in the library collection.
Prepare and distribute re-allocated items as directed. Assist librarians with collection maintenance of library materials and related records for materials to be discarded. Maintain and update item records.
Keep written procedures up-to-date to support department and system-wide standards.
Participate in recommending improvements to increase the efficiency of individual, work unit or system-wide tasks.
Receive, respond or direct as appropriate to inquiries by phone, help desk tickets, email or mail from staff and patrons.
Collect and report monthly statistics.
Provide back up support in the absence of other department personnel.
May participate in the selection of new employees for the department, under the supervision of the department manager.
May train other personnel in the use of library systems and resources.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of and ability to utilize the Dewey Decimal System and perform alphanumeric filing accurately.
Ability to learn and apply mending, jacketing, labeling and cataloging skills
Ability to navigate and utilize the Internet as required, Integrated Library System (ILS) and Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) database.
Ability to operate standard office equipment, perform required data entry proficiently and utilize computer software and specialized programs.

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to:
(CONTINUOUS) seeing, hearing, grasping, handling and manual dexterity.

(OCCASIONAL) climbing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling and balancing.
Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 25 pounds and, frequently, up to 50 pounds.
Regularly requires the ability to push, pull and maneuver loaded book carts (20 pounds of push/pull force) on a frequent basis, over an extended period of time.
Work requires the skill and ability to use small and/or sharp hand tools.

SCHEDULE
This is a non-exempt, part-time 30 hour per week position. The schedule will be determined by the supervisor upon hire and may include weekends and evenings. Please note that schedules are subject to change to meet the needs of the library.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduation or GED, plus two years' experience in a service-orientated environment.

BENEFITS & SALARY
Employees regularly scheduled 20 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in our medical, dental, vision, basic life, AD&D, long term disability insurance plans, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), as well as our employee assistance program. Additionally, all employees regularly scheduled 20 or more hours per week receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Full-time, hourly employees earn 15 days of vacation leave, 12 days of sick leave, and 1 personal day their first year. This is pro-rated for part-time employees.
Kitsap Regional Library participates in the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Employees are automatically eligible for the plan if they work a minimum of 16.25 hours per week (or 70 hour per month) during five months per year for two consecutive years.
Compensation range is $18.81-$25.28 per hour. Wages are determined depending on required and relevant experience and in alignment with internal equity.
