Hours: Standard University business hours

8:30am - 5:00pm (academic year)
8:00am - 4:30pm (summer)

Job Description:
The Crime, Threat, and Risk Analyst supports policing and crime prevention by applying analysis to crime data to determine possible crime patterns and prevalence. The position utilizes a variety of data sources to recognize trends and patterns and communicates such to DPS members. The position is funded by Syracuse University, collaborates with the Central New York Crime Analysis Center and reports to the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety Lieutenant of Investigations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of research and analytical tasks.
  • Collect, compile, validate, interpret, and analyze data and trends using standard practices and techniques of crime and/or law enforcement intelligence analysis.
  • Develops and publishes estimates and forecasts related to the safety/security situation at sites of university interest abroad.
  • During an international crisis, monitors available data to provide ongoing operational updates to command staff.
  • Perform statistical, spatial, and/or qualitative analyses as needed, making use of standard software packages.
  • Work on assignments that are moderately complex under direct or indirect supervision, where there is latitude for independent action and decision-making.
  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations of analytic results and may be subpoenaed to testify in court proceedings.
  • Networks and serves as liaison with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and constituencies.
  • Actively engages in innovative problem-solving techniques and procedural justice practices with the community by demonstrating fairness, transparency and impartiality in decision making.
  • Participates/instructs in annual Department of Public Safety training.
  • Attends department and divisional meetings.
  • Ensures compliance with DPS accreditation standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
