Apprentice Butcher/Meat Cutter

Myerstown, PA

Are you passionate about respecting animals from the hoof to the table?

• Slaughter & quarter meat on Tuesdays
• Break beef into ground beef, roasts, and steaks the rest of the week per customers' requests
• Turn pork meat into pork chops, shoulder roasts, grinding sausage, jerky, etc.
• Smoke bacon, ham, and sausage
• Interact with customers in the store
• Work full-time hours starting at 7 AM, Monday through Friday, with extra hours for deer season

Bur-Pak Family Foods is a faith-based business specializing in custom-processing beef, pork, lamb, and various game meats. Our goal is to provide a friendly work environment where we can offer our customers the best possible product.

We seek an Apprentice Butcher/Meat Cutter to build their skills alongside our highly skilled butchers with on-the-job training as you start grinding, trimming, and cutting. Our Ideal Apprentice Butcher/Meat Cutter:

• Experience: Experienced and entry-level butchers/meat cutters are encouraged to apply; we are happy to provide on-the-job training.
• Punctual, Reliable & Flexible: Work hours are typically 7 AM to 5 PM, around 45-55 hours per week, with shop work on rainy days. You'll arrive at the shop at 6:55 AM to start the day. Leave time varies depending on the season.
• Detailed: Butchery requires precision and accuracy, so attention to detail is crucial to ensure consistency & quality in the products.
• Customer-oriented: Interacting with customers is a significant portion of working in the butcher shop. Must have good communication skills, be friendly, and be able to provide helpful advice & assistance.
• Respect for Food: Genuinely appreciate the food industry, respect the animals that provide the meat, and commit to minimizing waste.
• Adaptable & Passion for Learning: This trade is dynamic and changes with the season and demand. You must be willing to continuously learn and grow with new techniques and technologies and follow your mentor's guidance.
• Physical Strength & Stamina: This position requires lifting heavy cuts of meat – up to 100 lbs., standing for long periods, and performing repetitive tasks.  

What we offer our Apprentice Butcher/Meat Cutter:

• $20-$24/hour – DOE
• Consistent M-F hours, 7 AM to 5 PM, with a later ending during the busy season
